This was bound to happen:  Fooducopia has gone to the dogs.

Bones Du Jour has been a mainstay at farmers markets across Northern Colorado for almost 10 years; Owner Sue Carroll has been making biscuits for her dogs for even longer.  Fooducopia is proud to introduce these natural pet treats to folks across the country!

Natural Dog Biscuits

Every ingredient in Bones Du Jour biscuits is human grade, and a recognizable food.  Owner Sue Carroll takes great care to understand where her ingredients comefrom.  A great example?  Bones Du Jour peanut butter biscuits.  These biscuits contain organic whole wheat and organic unbleached white flour, organic chicken broth, fresh ground organic peanut butter, 9 grain cereal, organic blue corn meal, organic eggs, dried skim milk, and organic wheat germ.    Currently in 2012, Sue knows where every ingredient in a Bones Du Jour biscuit came from and how it was produced.

See Spot Eat Local

In addition, Bones Du Jour ingredients come as local as possible.  ”Local means fresher and more nutrients. I know exactly what’s in it and I’m able to support local dog treats for sensitive stomachsfarms,’ states Sue.  Sue is also a helpful resource for the farmers.  Bones Du Jour sources things farmers otherwise would not be able to sell.  For instance, all the pumpkin in the Pumpkin Ginger biscuits are from pumpkins left in the fields after Halloween.  Buffalo liver is not a product humans seek out, yet every buffalo comes with one.  A family ranch in Laramie, Wyoming provides Bones Du Jour with all the liver necessary for the Buffalo Liver treats (the Bones Du Jour signature biscuit).

At one point, Sue knew the names of each chicken that laid eggs for Bones Du Jour.  However, business has grown and those gals just couldn’t keep up!  Knowing the chickens is no longer a reasonable goal, but she tries to stay on a first-name basis with all the farmers she works with.

Dog treats for sensitive stomaches

natural dog biscuitsBare Bones by Bones du Jour are grain free dog treats inspired by a dog named Bailey who was allergic to wheat and corn. They’re made with minimal ingredients (great for dogs with sensitive stomaches) and no grains.  These are perfect treats for dogs on a no-grain diet.

What else is great about Bones Du Jour?

These biscuits have no preservatives and no sweeteners.  Each package has a ‘baked on’ date — this is not an expiration date!  The biscuits can last 3 months on the shelf, 6 months in the fridge, and approximately 8 months in the freezer.  It’s not that they go bad after a certain date, but the aerobic vitamins and minerals break down over time and the treats aren’t as healthy as they once were.

As I can’t quite explain how Bones Du Jour taste, here are some thoughts from Bones Du Jour clients:
